Preparing kids for school for over 45 years

In 1970, the Carol Matheys Center for Children and Families opened its doors as part of the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church. Then in 1989, the center became an independent, nonprofit childcare center.

Brewing delicious coffee in New Brighton for 20 years


The latest addition to the Bru House is the Bru Thru at the opposite side of the shopping center, which opens at 6 a.m. on weekdays. “People are excited about it,” Bru House owner Lynn Barton says. “And it’s been so useful.”

It wasn’t only New Brighton’s need for a small coffee shop that led Lynn Barton to open the Bru House in 1996. It was also her passion for coffee itself.

Applewood Pointe Cooperative of New Brighton opened its doors a decade ago, and some of its current residents were on the waiting list before the senior housing complex was even completed.

The word “Kiwanis” comes from an Indian word meaning “we build,” and considering all of St. Anthony Kiwanis Club’s community-building activities, the term certainly fits.
