Area trio earns collegiate accolade

Three former Bulletin-area high school students were recently honored for their academic and athletic prowess in college. All three earned Upper Midwest Athletic Conference fall semester academic all-conference awards.

They are Mounds View High School alumnus Stephen Jensen and St. Anthony Village High School alumni Chris Lawson and Maggie Dolan. All three attend and play an intercollegiate sport at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth.

To be eligible, students must post a grade-point average of at least 3.5 during their respective semester of athletic competition. St. Scholastica led all schools in the UMAC with 80 academic all-conference athletes. A total of 360 athletes were honored by the conference.

Jensen, a junior on the Saints' football team, is now a three-time academic all-UMAC selection and has made the Dean's list at the school five times.

Dolan is a junior defender on the women's soccer team and has garnered a number of awards in her three seasons. Last fall she was St. Scholastica's representative on the UMAC women's soccer sportsmanship award list and as a sophomore was a first-team all-UMAC selection.

Lawson is a freshman member of the men's cross country team.

St. Scholastica's athletic teams compete at the NCAA Division III level.
