Former Husky earns academic honor

Chris Lawson, a 2012 graduate of St. Anthony Village High School, was recently named an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference academic honoree. A freshman at the College of St. Scholastica, Lawson was named academic all-conference for the spring season.

To be eligible, student-athletes must post a grade-point average of 3.5 or higher. Lawson is a member of the Saints’ men’s track and field team and also runs cross country for the school in Duluth, Minn.

Lawson’s specialties are the distance events and he helped the track team win its fourth consecutive conference indoor championship. Lawson earned all-conference honors by winning the 5,000 meters at the UMAC indoor championship meet.

During the outdoor season this spring, Lawson took second place in the 5,000 meters at the conference championship meet, which St. Scholastica won for the second consecutive year.

Last fall as a member of the men’s cross country team, Lawson was the first St. Scholastica runner across the finish line and was second overall in the conference championship meet. That helped the Saints win its fourth straight UMAC crown.

Lawson was also academic all-conference last fall as a member of the cross country team.
