Poached Pears

Easy, delicious and what a color! Thiry says, “I like to serve this for Christmas because you can do it ahead of time. I usually serve it with some Christmas sugar cookies.”

1 1/2 cup red wine
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 large can (about 15 oz.) pear halves
red food coloring

Pour wine and sugar into a saucepan. Cook over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Pour mixture into crockpot add pear halves and 8 drops of food coloring. Stir gently to coat pears. Cover and cook on low 6 hours, turning pears occasionally.
Serve warm in dessert glasses, topping the pears with a bit of ice cream and wine sauce.
