State senate recognizes Stillwater Mock Trial team
Senator Karin Housley honored the Stillwater Area High School Mock Trial team with an official Senate Resolution on Thursday, March 27.
Housley, who represents the St. Croix Valley, presented team members of the newly-formed Mock Trial team with Senate Resolution 180 after they qualified for the Minnesota Mock Trial State Tournament in the team’s inaugural year.
The team went undefeated in the first two rounds of the state competition.
“These students have achieved something very impressive with their performance during Mock Trial competitions,” said Sen. Housley. “Their win demonstrates that with focus, hard work and a lot of will, you can achieve your goals. They’ve represented our community very well -- we are all proud of the achievements of these Stillwater students.”
Team members Amy Crea and Alex Eitman were stand-outs in the competition, winning the All-State Witness Award and All-State Attorney Award, respectively.
The team composed of Crea and Eitzman along with Holly Fena, Rachel Hartwig, Carly Johnson, Nick Sabin, Alex Screaton, and Mitchell Sell was coached by Eckberg Lammers attorneys Tom Weidner, Kevin Sandstrom, Mike McCain, Rebecca Christensen, Jeff Kemp, and Beth Kelly, and Amanda Prutzman.
Senate Resolution 180 was adopted by the Senate on March 20, 2014, with unanimous support. The resolution can be viewed by clicking here
