Letter: Opposes rail quiet zones

To the editor:

It has become fashionable, at least in the northeastern burbs, to complain about train noise and then convince local and state government bodies to spend hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars to appease this very small group of people. We live about 3 blocks from the tracks on Little Canada Road, near 35E. We LOVE the horns of the train and the clacking on the tracks; it means good jobs and successful commerce. This is a frivolous expenditure of our tax dollars and certainly does not represent the majority of citizens. No local authority has put this expenditure to a public vote; they know what would happen. There are roads and bridges across the State that desperately need tax dollars. Why are a privilegdged few allowed to spend our money so foolishly?
