Bulletin-area trio named baseball all-stars
Three members of Bulletin-area high school baseball teams are set to spend the upcoming weekend in Chaska.
Mounds View’s Kellen Rholl and St. Anthony Village’s Noah Bluth and Zach Siggelkow will take part in the Minnesota High School Baseball All-Star Series on Friday and Saturday at Chaska Athletic Park.
Rholl, who wrapped up his prep career on Monday in the Class AAA state championship game at Target Field, is a member of the Metro East all-star team that plays Friday at 3 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Bluth and Siggelkow are on the Metro West team that has games on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.
In addition to the tournament, players will attend a banquet on June 19 at Hazeltine National Golf Club where former Minnesota Twins manager Tom Kelly is scheduled to be the guest speaker. The players will also help conduct a pair of free baseball clinics on Friday.
There are two other Bulletin-area connections to this year’s all-star series. Two of the Metro East coaches are former Mounds View High School baseball coaches. East Ridge head coach Brian Sprout was an assistant at Mounds View under Mark Downey before taking the head job with the Raptors.
Jon Nuss was also an assistant under Downey before taking the reins at Mounds View and guiding the Mustangs to the 2013 Class AAA state championship. This spring, Nuss was an assistant coach at Totino-Grace High School.
