Dead woman found wrapped in blanket in woods
Died of natural causes, police say
Police reported Sunday, June 22 that they found a dead woman wrapped in a blanket in a wooded area on the 1400 block of Minnehaha Avenue East.
St. Paul police reported to a call Saturday and found the body of 39-year-old Rahel Nigusse around 9 p.m.
The body was by a nearby apartment building -- the Pioneer Press reported the landlord of the building and a tenant found the body in a patch of woods just beside the apartment.
According to the St. Paul Police Department's Twitter account, a person of interest was arrested in relation to the death on Monday, June 23 on suspicion of murder. The man was released Tuesday at noon without being charged.
Police later determined the woman died of natural causes.
The investigation is ongoing, because it's suspected the body was tampered with, said St. Paul police spokesperson Paul Paulos.
Paulos said that could explain why Niguesse's body was found in a patch of woods.
Police are presenting a case to the city attorney, he said.
