St. Anthony VillageFest 2014
This year’s St. Anthony Village Fest runs Friday-Sunday, Aug. 1-3, at locations throughout the city, including Central Park and the St. Anthony Shopping center.
VillageFest chair Julianne Hunter said that with all the good things planned for this year’s event, none of it would be possible without St. Anthony’s backing, from the police to public works, to the folks in the city office.
“We just need to thank the city,” Hunter said. “While we’re not city funded, we’re certainly city sponsored.”
The VillageFest Parade begins at 7 p.m. Friday, leaving from St. Charles Borromeo Church at Stinson Parkway and St. Anthony Boulevard, heading down the boulevard to the St. Anthony Shopping Center. Once the parade has arrived, there is the Street Dance & Celebration including games, food and drinks, music and dancing.
The St. Anthony Lions will be collecting non-perishable food items, as well as diapers, toiletries and paper products at the parade for the North East Food Shelf; the parade happens rain or shine, barring dangerous weather.
Also on Friday night, The Village Pub, located at the shopping center, will hold its 5th Annual VillageFest Moonlight Bocce Tournament, starting at 9 p.m.; contact the Village Pub for more information.
VillageFest’s 5K Run departs from the shopping center Saturday at 8 a.m. Preregistration is required. Following the race is the VillageFest Blood Drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. Anthony High School as well as the Adult Co-Ed Kickball Tournament in Central park, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
“The kickball tournament is really super popular,” Hunter said. “Even if you don’t play it, it’s super fun to watch.”
Throughout the day in Central Park, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., there will be inflatables, games, music, food and drink, as well as a the Lion’s Club Petting Zoo, from noon to 5 p.m.
New to this year’s VillageFest is the Teen Headquarters in the Pavilion, which runs from 7-9:30 p.m. The Teen Headquarters will have a DJ, light show, soda and snacks, along with door prizes.
A fireworks display will be set off over Central Park Saturday night.
“[The fireworks are] pretty prompt at 9:45,” Hunter said. “There’s not a bad seat. We’re just hoping for good weather!”
Sunday, Aug. 3, is the Kiwanis Pancake Breakast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at St. Anthony High School. Adults eat for $7 while kids eat for $5.
