Masked robbers threaten Mendota VFW employee

Two male suspects wearing masks recently threatened an employee while robbing the Mendota VFW, brandishing a bat and claiming to have a gun, according to police.

Mendota Heights police responded the the armed robbery report at 10:41 a.m. Jan. 13 at the VFW Post 6690, 1323 Hwy. 13, Mendota, according to police records.

According to Police Chief Mike Aschenbrener, the employee was so frightened, he or she "did not yell for help until the suspects exited the building."

While threatening the employee, the suspects reportedly implied they had a gun, but it was not visible to the employee, according to Aschenbrener. After taking undisclosed items, they fled southbound on Hwy. 13 in a small silver car.

The case is still under investigation, he said. Investigators are working with several other police departments to see if the robbery matches up with other incidents.
