Mendota Heights encourages residents to not flush wipes

Mendota Heights utilities lead worker Rich Burrows teamed up with Katherine Curtis of Town Square TV to produce a video about not flushing “flushable” wipes down the toilet.

Flushing wipes—even ones labeled as flushable—Burrows said, can lead to clogging issues. He said not only is it a problem for his team, it’s also an additional maintenance expense for the city.

“No doubt all of them are flushable—they’ll go down your toilet,” Burrows said. “It’s just that when they hit our system they don’t break down... [They’re all made of] plastic nylon fibers.”
