Roseville resident Jamie Becker-Finn announced Jan. 27 that she'll seek the DFL Party's endorsement for House District 42B, making a run at filling the vacancy created by sitting Rep. Jason Isaacson's bid for the Minnesota Senate.

Becker-Finn, 33, is an assistant Hennepin County attorney as a domestic violence prosecutor and sits on the Roseville Parks and Recreation Commission.

The mother of two, who is married to Gabe Becker-Finn, was previously a law clerk in Hennepin District Court and a legislative assistant for the House Tax Committee.

She graduated from the University of Minnesota and the William Mitchell College of Law.

Becker-Finn said in a release announcing her candidacy that "addressing the concerns of the working families and seniors of our community will be my highest priorities in the Legislature." She added that the full range of education policy is of "great interest" to her and she would work to address income disparities.

A native of northern Minnesota and 11-year Roseville resident, Becker-Finn also said she would work to preserve and protect the state's natural resources.

Becker-Finn's announcement came roughly five weeks after former Roseville Area Schools Board member Kaying Thao announced she's also making a bid for the District 42B seat, seeking the DFL endorsement as well.

Thao, 37, is a DFL legislative staffer from Little Canada who served one term on the District 623 School Board; she did not seek reelection to the board last year.

Isaacson, the 44-year-old DFL college instructor from Shoreview, opted to attempt the move to the Senate following District 42 Sen. Bev Scalze's, announcement that she would not seek reelection. Scalze, the 72-year-old DFLer from Little Canada, said she was looking forward to spending time with family and focusing on her wildlife art.

House District 42B is made up of Gem Lake, Little Canada, Vadnais Heights and sections of Roseville and Shoreview.

Senate District 42 is made up of Arden Hills, Gem Lake, Little Canada, Mounds View, Shoreview, Vadnais Heights and parts of Blaine, Roseville and Spring Lake Park.

DFL caucuses are March 1, and Election Day is Nov. 8.
