Falcon Heights

$6 worth of trouble

The citation for misdemeanor theft is in the mail for the 51-year-old man who was caught shoplifting $6 worth of mechandise from the BP in the 1600 block of Snelling Avenue Aug. 28. The man was seen leaving the store without paying for the stuff, so a witness stopped him and took the stolen items back to the gas station. Police tracked the man down later, arresting and releasing him.

Bike theft

A 22-year-old man told police Aug. 27 someone stole his $800 bike, which was locked up outside apartments in the 1700 block of Larpenteur Avenue.

Burglary

Even though someone broke into a house in the 1400 block of California Avenue sometime before Aug. 22 and apparently searched every room of it, the 43-year-old women who lives there told police it appears only a single blank check is missing. The Ramsey County Crime Lab processed the scene and it looks like the intruder got in by forcing a screen window.

Domestic assault

A 24-year-old man called police to tell them that he’d assaulted his 20-year-old girlfriend. Police checked on the woman, who did not cooperate with them and declined medical attention. The man was booked at the Ramsey County Jail for possession of a dangerous weapon, brass knuckles, and for misdemeanor domestic assault.

Kids in a stolen car

Following a routine license plate check in the area of Larpenteur Avenue and Coffman Street Aug. 26, police determined they’d located a car stolen out of Minneapolis. Offices tried to pull the car over, but it fled the scene, prompting the pursuing police to execute a “precision immobilization technique” stop of it — police used their squad car to turn the fleeing vehicle sideways. The fleeing car crashed into a retaining wall and the four occupants jumped out and ran. Police were able to catch the car’s three male passengers, a 14-year-old and two 16-year-olds. The kids refused to identify the driver of the car, who got away. Police let Minneapolis PD know about the stolen vehicle and the kids were released to their families.

Speeding motorcycle

Police got word from the State Patrol of a speeding motorcycle headed their way Aug. 28. Speeding it was — the motorcyclist, located in the area of Roselawn and Cleveland avenues, was going an estimated 100 mph. Police attempted to stop the bike, until it upped the ante and sped up to 120 mph, prompting police to call off the pursuit because of heavy traffic and dangerous driving conditions.

Strange trip

Police arrested a 19-year-old women Aug. 22 at Snelling and Dan Patch avenues for fifth-degree felony possession of a controlled substance, which police said was psychedelic mushrooms. She was booked at the Ramsey County Jail.

Street racing

Police saw a number of cars racing on Highway 280 Aug. 28 and attempted to pull them over. All but one of the cars did so, stopping in the area of the Larpenteur Avenue exit — the car that did not stop shut off its lights and fled, weaving through traffic at estimated speeds faster than 100 mph. Police called off any chase of that vehicle over safety concerns.

A Pekingese named Cupid went missing in the 100 block of Canabury Court Aug. 29, as reported by her 61-year-old owner. Police were soon led to the woman’s barking dog, which was stuck under a neighbor’s deck. Police tried to dig a hole so Cupid could crawl out from under the patio, but when that didn’t work, the fine folks at the Little Canada Fire Department came out and removed some of the deck boards, freeing Cupid. The dog was OK and firefighters replaced the boards on the deck once all was said and done.

The owners of a barking dog in the 3100 block of Labore Road were given a warning for not having a dog license Aug. 31 after someone called to report that the dog had been outside and barking all summer.

A female Domino’s Pizza employee was making the restaurant’s nightly deposit early in the morning of Aug. 31 in the 2800 block of Rice Street when she was robbed by a man wielding a Taser. She was not hurt in the incident — the robber ran off and got away, though police set up a perimeter to search for him.
