Tartan’s Boyle headed back to Nordic state meet

Tartan High School senior CeCe Boyle is set to close out her prep Nordic skiing career this week. She is headed to Biwabik on Feb. 16 to compete in the state meet.

Boyle qualified for state by claiming one of the six individual berths at the Section 4 championships on Feb. 9 at Hyland Lake Park Reserve in Bloomington. She finished 10th overall and fourth among the individual qualifiers.

Her total time between the classic and skate races was 30 minutes, 15 seconds, which was 14 seconds faster than the fifth individual state qualifier. She also finished one minute, 17 seconds behind the individual section champion, Regan Duffy of Forest Lake.

Stillwater claimed the section team championship with 382 points and Forest Lake was the runner-up with 375. Both squads advance to the state meet. Tartan was eighth in the section team standings with 225 points.

Boyle is headed to the state meet for the third time in her career. Last year as a junior, she finished 78th at state and the year before that she placed 111th.

Earlier in the season, Boyle won the Metro East Conference individual championship after coming in second place last season.

Tartan’s boys team finished ninth with 185 points. Stillwater claimed the team title with 379 points and Forest Lake was the runner-up with 372 points.

Sophomore Ian Pawlenty was Tartan’s top individual finisher. His pursuit time of 31 minutes, 30 seconds landed him in 47th place. Teammate Zach Drayna, a senior, also finished in the top 50 as he took 49th with a time of 31 minutes, 40 seconds.

The Nordic skiing state meet is Feb. 16 at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.
