St. Anthony gymnast headed to state
St. Anthony Village High School senior Kia Kivi is headed to the state gymnastics this weekend. This is her third trip to state but first in three years.
Kivi qualified for the Class A state meet in three events and the all-around via her performances at the Section 4A meet on Feb. 16 at Mahtomedi High School.
Kivi finished second in two events, fourth in another and second in the all-around standings.
Her all-around score of 36.7 left Kivi in second place behind only Mahtomedi’s Kasey Lenarz, who scored a 38.65.
Kivi’s top event score was 9.35, which she achieved on both the vault and floor exercise. She took second on the vault and fourth on floor. Kivi was also second on the uneven bars with a 9.225.
Kivi first qualified for state in 2013 as an eighth grader and returned to the state meet the next season as a freshman. No St. Anthony gymnast made state in 2015 and Victoria Farias represented the Huskies at state last year.
As a team, St. Anthony finished third with a score of 127.925. Mahtomedi ran away with the section team championship by posting a score of 145.275. St. Paul Highland Park took second with a score of 129.675.
