Cord cutters in Shoreview

Arden Hills

Identity theft/caught in the act

The store clerk at the cell phone store in the 3800 block of Lexington Avenue thought something fishy was going on March 20 as a 26-year-old man from Shillington, Pennsylvania, attempted to finance a $1,150 iPhone X using someone else’s identity, so the clerk hit the silent alarm. The man was arrested and booked at the Ramsey County Jail for felony theft and felony identity theft.

Not my mail

A 27-year-old man who lives in the 3700 block of Brighton Way called the police March 20 to report finding mail in his mailbox that didn’t belong to him. The sheriff’s office suspects a mail thief dumped the mail in the man’s box, discarding items that weren’t useful to the thief’s criminal enterprise.

Falcon Heights

Nothing to report this week.

Lauderdale

Arrests

Following a March 11 traffic top on Highway 280 at Larpenteur Avenue, a 39-year-old man was arrested and cited for gross misdemeanor attempt to evade motor vehicle tax. The driver of the car he was in, a 34-year-old woman, was arrested and booked at the Ramsey County Jail for driving with a revoked license as well as for an outstanding Anoka County warrant for child neglect.

DWI

Police stopped a 35-year-old St. Paul man for speeding March 10 on Highway 280 at Larpenteur Avenue and ended up arresting him for third-degree DWI. He blew a blood alcohol concentration of .11 and was booked at the Ramsey County Jail.

Lock the car?

A 60-year-old woman told police March 6 someone rummaged through her car in the past couple of days as the vehicle was parked in the 1800 block of Fulham Street.

Little Canada

Broken windows

A prowler broke into a number of cars in a Little Canada neighborhood overnight into March 15. A 33-year-old man told police his car’s rear window was smashed as it was parked in the 100 block of Yorkton Ridge. Nothing seemed to be missing from the car. The situation was different for a 29-year-old woman who reported a similar incident the same day from the same block: her gym bag and hair-cutting equipment were missing from her car. The thief also hit up the 100 block of Burke Lane in the same time period. A 36-year-old man whose passenger side window was smashed on that block reported the theft of a $700 Thinkpad and a $350 iPad Mini; a 59-year-old woman in the same block reported her driver’s side window as smashed but nothing as stolen.

Refusal to pay

A man left the car stereo store in the 2600 block of Rice Street with a $300 car stereo after he refused to pay for it.

Stolen Civic

A 25-year-old man told police March 19 his 1997 Honda Civic was stolen sometime overnight as it was parked in the 200 block of County Road B2. Roseville PD found it two days later in the 200 block of Grandview Avenue, both without keys or its stereo.

New Brighton

Big gas and go

A driver made off with nearly $85 worth of gas — that’d be 31.5 gallons — without paying March 21 from a gas station in the 300 block of County Road E2.

Remove computers from unoccupied cars

A 46-year-old man reported his car’s window smashed and his HP laptop as stolen March 18. The car’d been parked in the 1900 block of Seventh Street NW.

Shoreview

Blackmail

The parents of a 15-year-old boy called the police March 19 because their son was being blackmailed — the 15-year-old had sent explicit photos of himself to someone he’d met online on a sketchy website who was now demanding $300 in exchange for not circulating the images.

Cord cutters

An employee at the Target in the 3800 block of Red Fox Road called the police March 16 to report a theft that’d happened the day before: Two people met at the iPhone counter and cut the security cords on display models of some iPhone X, 7 and 8 models, pocketing the phones, then left the store together walking off in different directions.

Lock the car

A 37-year-old woman told police March 17 that someone had gotten into her unlocked car in the 4100 block of Lexington Avenue and stolen some CDS and a Starbucks gift card.

St. Anthony

Extremely intoxicated

Police found an intoxicated 34-year-old man in the 2600 block of Kenzie Terrace March 8 who’d been dropped at the bus stop and wished to be taken to detox. He blew a blood alcohol concentration of .355 — more than four times the legal limit had he been driving — so he was taken to HCMC for special care.

Stolen smokes

An employee at the Freedom Valu Center in the 2800 block of Silver Lake Road told police March 10 that someone stole two cartons of cigarettes worth a total of $177.10. The person left the store and got into a waiting car. Officers checked the area but didn’t find the thief.
