Young writers group

Join other teen writers on May 8 from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m., in doing inspiring exercises, sharing feedback, being creative and having fun at the Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave. E. This is open to teens ages 10 to 16.

 

South St. Paul book club

On May 9, from 1 to 3 p.m., join the group for its monthly book discussion into the details of a good book. This month’s book is “Kitchens of the Great Midwest” by J. Ryan Stradal. The evening group will meet on May 10 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The group meets at the South St. Paul library, 106 Third Ave. N.

 

Pegs and Jokers card games

This is a card game on a board that is similar to the board game Sorry. Partners use strategy to be the first to bring home all their pegs. Sounds simple but you’ll certainly have to use all the possible moves and planning to come out the winner. Players hold only five cards at once. All welcome, handouts with rules provided. No registration is required. The group meets on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. The first meeting will be May 9 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., at Thompson Park Activity Center, 1200 Stassen Lane, West St. Paul. 

 

St. Croix band concert

St. Croix Lutheran Middle School will present a band concert and the musical “Getting to know – Oklahoma!” on May 10 at 7 p.m., in the auditorium, 1200 Oakdale Ave., West St. Paul. Admission is free and this is open to the public.

 

Nature after Dark

On May 10, come to Dodge Nature Center, 1701 Charlton St., West St. Paul, to meet the animals on the farm that make milk. From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., learn what other animals people around the world use to get milk. Try your hand at making some of the best butter you have ever tasted. This program is designed for kids ages 3 to 8. All children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Pre-registration is encouraged. Cost is $7. Leo and Kathy Lara

Hear the legend of the armadillo-shelled charango, sing a Cuban lullaby, and listen to Latin American folk music with performances by Leo and Kathy Lara in this Silver Tea event featuring music, language, and culture. A Minnesota Legacy program sponsored by Minnesota’s Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund, this will take place at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworh Ave. E., from 1 to 2 p.m. 

 

Introductory archery 

Learn the principals of archery by a National Archery in the Schools certified instructor. This class will cover the basics of archery, history and safety on the range. This is open to kids ages 9 to 14. All equipment is provided. Classes meet from 4 to 5 p.m., on Thursdays starting May 10 and run through June 7. Donuts and coffee with a cop

On May 12, the Inver Grove Heights Police Department and Cub Foods want you to pull up a chair, grab coffee and a donut and get to know your local police officers. This will run from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Cub Foods, 7850 Cahill Ave.
