NEWSBRIEF: Donate pencils to help fill backpacks

Inver Grove Heights Police and Fire needs your help. The departments need 6,000 new - #2 pencils - ideally pre-sharpened, but they’ll take them unsharpened too.

IGH police and fire departments are working with local churches and Inver Grove Heights Public Schools (ISD 199) for this years’ Back to School Bash, which is being hosted at St. Patrick’s Church.

The goal of the Back to School Bash is to collect school supplies and then provide students backpacks that contain all the needed school supplies for the upcoming school year.

If you can help, there will be a drop box located at the police department in City Hall, 8150 Barbara Ave. E., and Fire Station #1 located 7015 Clayton Ave. Pencil collection started June 11 and runs through July 13.

If you have the ability to join with the police officers and firefighters to reach their goal of 6,000 pencils, please do so.

If you have questions, or if you’d like to donate a large quantity of pencils, please call Commander Dennis Haugland at 651-450-2460.
