Make a statement

The Oakdale Library, 1010 Heron Ave. N., is hosting family event focused on change-makers. The group will listen to stories, discuss ideas and make their own buttons to take home. This event will be held Tuesday, July 10, from 2 to 3 p.m., and is most appropriate for children ages 7-11 and their families. Speed friending

Sometimes it seems impossible to make new friends as an adult, so the Oakdale Library is organizing a speed friending event to be held at Sgt Peppers Grille and Bar, 930 Helena Ave. N., Oakdale, on Wednesday, July 11, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Participants will rotate between partners for short conversations and if there’s a friend match, the Oakdale Library will connect them after the event through email. Senior Mondays 

The Sally Manzara Intepretive Nature Center at Lake Elmo’s Sunfish Lake Park offers guided trail walks for seniors from 9 to 11 a.m. on Mondays beginning June 18. These event will be followed by coffee, refreshments and conversation. The entrance to Sunfish Lake Park is on Stillwater Lane North, just off County Road 14, west of downtown Lake Elmo.

 

Buckthorn removal 

The Sally Manzara Intepretive Nature Center is hosting a buckthorn removal event in Sunfish Lake Park on June 30 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The entrance to Sunfish Lake Park is on Stillwater Lane North, just off County Road 14, west of downtown Lake Elmo.

 

Fundraiser for Ramsey County Care Center

Friends and Families of Ramsey County Care Center will hold their annual fundraiser mini golf and picnic on Saturday, June 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Midwest Golf Dome, 1815 Van Dyke St. in Maplewood, at the corner of Ripley and White Bear avenues. Tickets are $8 each or two for $15. Tickets include a picnic lunch with the game of miniature golf. Support group for families

National Alliance on Mental Illness Minnesota sponsors free support groups for families and friends of individuals living with a mental illness. Led by trained facilitators who also have a family member with mental illness, the support groups help families develop better coping skills and find strength through sharing their experiences. A family support group meets in Oakdale on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Canvas Health, 7066 Stillwater Blvd., in the community room.  For information, call Dan at 651-341-8918.
