Filing opens for non-primary races

Candidate filing for non-primary races opens July 31 at 8 a.m., and closes Aug. 14 at 6 p.m.

Candidates filing for city offices can file an affidavit of candidacy with the city clerk. Candidates running for school board seats should file with the school district clerk.

Cities that will have filing open include Mendota Heights, Sunfish Lake, Lilydale and Mendota. Each city will have its mayor’s seat, along with multiple council seats, up for election this fall.

Filing for the South St. Paul School Board also opens July 31.

To run for office, one must meet the following requirements: be a citizen of the United States, be an eligible voter, pay all filing fees or present a petition in place of the filing fee, complete an affidavit of candidacy and complete and file a campaign finance report.
