Stories sing with the Minnesota Opera

Teaching artist and Minnesota Opera member Alisa Magallón will lead a lively and interactive opera storytelling program at Lake Elmo Library for preschool age children Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 3 to 4 p.m. This program is ideal for children ages 3 through 6, but other ages are welcome as well. Lake Elmo Library is located at 3537 Lake Elmo Ave. N.

 

Learning with a naturalist: pollinators

The Oakdale Library  is hosting an event on pollinators Tuesday, Aug. 7, from 1 to 2 p.m. This event will include stories and a craft focused on pollinators with Linda Radimecky, a local interpretive naturalist for the Minnesota DNR. This event is best suited for children ages 4 and up and no registration required. The Oakdale Library is located at 1010 Heron Ave. N.

 

Acrylic painting basic instruction

Acrylic paint is a fun and versatile medium. This event at the Oakdale Library on Saturday, Aug. 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. will teach participants how to mix and control gradations in color and create effects through blends, dry-brush and washes. Participants will also learn how to incorporate collage and texture. This class is perfect for adult and teen artists. Registration is required. A trip through time

What do a bumblebee and the St. Paul and Duluth Railroad have in common?  Gladstone Savanna!  Once the site of railroad repair shops, the savanna is now one of Maplewood’s most unique preserves. People of all ages are invited to celebrate the Gladstone Savanna at the southwest corner of Frost Avenue and English Street on Thursday, Aug. 2, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The free event will include a ribbon cutting, treats, a scavenger hunt along the paved trail loop, sweep netting for insects in the prairie and more. Street parking will be available on Frost Avenue, west of English Street or in the parking lot at Flicek Park.
