Monarchs

Join a Dodge Nature Center naturalist to learn about the monarch butterfly — one of Minnesota’s most recognizable insects. Presented by Dodge Nature Center, this will take place at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. E, on Aug. 14 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. 

 

Kawaii creatures

Using fun colors of felt, cut, sew and stuff a perfect little kawaii creature of your choosing. Kawaii is a term used in Japanese culture for everything tiny, sweet, cuddly and cute. Presented by the Textile Center, registration is required. This will run from 6 to 8 p.m., on Aug. 14, at the Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave. E. Call 651-554-6840 to register.

 

End of summer celebration

Join the West St. Paul Police Department and Northern Star Scouting Aug. 15 from 1 to 3 p.m. for free activities at Southview Park, 275 Westview Dr. This week, Dodge Nature Center, 4-H and the U of M will join in for an end of summer celebration.

 

IGH Food Truck

Stop by Rich Valley Athletic Complex, 1841 105th St. E., Inver Grove Heights, for Food Truck Day Aug. 15. Running from 4:30 to 7 p.m., visit one of seven confirmed food trucks for dinner or dessert that night. Faith United Methodist Church

 If you’re interested in community gardening, bees and butterflies, wood fired ovens, or labyrinths join others in the church backyard on Aug. 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church. There’ll be wood-fired pizza and a labyrinth to walk. The church will also show off its straw-bale food shelf garden. Faith is located at 1530 Oakdale Ave, West St. Paul. Drawing from Nature

Explore the concept of nature in art through techniques such as observational drawing, and incorporating physical elements of nature into your art pieces. This is presented by Artistry. Registration is required. A Minnesota Legacy program sponsored by Minnesota’s Arts & Cultural Heritage Fund, it will take place Aug. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N. Star Party - Mars Madness

Make the stars your old friends as we watch the great celestial show in the skies. The planet Mars is the “star” attraction. Get to know more about our Martian neighbor. The event will begin with a short indoor orientation and then have giant telescopes aimed at Mars, as well as the moon, Jupiter, Saturn and other great celestial treasures.  Participants can check out the constellations like The Big Bear, Cygnus the Swan, Pegasus the Winged Horse, and hear some of the great stories behind them. Taking place Aug. 18 from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., at Simley High School, 2920 80th St. E., Inver Grove Heights, this will be hosted by WCCO Meteorologist Mike Lynch.
