Mystery solved in New Brighton

Arden Hills

Battery bust

A 61-year-old man reported Aug. 13 the theft of 33 bus batteries from 33 buses — each battery is worth $100 for a total loss of $3,300 — from a parking lot at Mounds View High School in the 1900 block of Valentine Road.

Keys inside the car

Falcon Heights

Two-piece theft

A 25-year-old man, whose moped keys had been stolen weeks prior, reported Aug. 13 the theft of the moped from a parking lot in the 1700 block of Tatum Street.

Lauderdale

Bottle to the face

Officers were called to apartments in the 1500 block of Eustis Street July 30 on a report of a disturbance — when they got there, they found a woman who’d been hit in the face by a bottle by an unknown man. She refused medical attention and did not cooperate with police, so the officers left, only to be called back because someone called again to say the woman needed medical help. She was again uncooperative and did not want to report the assault, but before leaving officers convinced a friend to take her to the hospital.

Very drunk from Dubuque

Police stopped a 45-year-old Dubuque, Iowa, man Aug. 5 on Larpenteur Avenue at Carl Street and arrested him for DWI. He blew a .34 blood alcohol concentration — that’s more than four times the legal limit — and was booked at the Ramsey County Jail for second-degree DWI.

Little Canada

Theft

An 85-year-old woman who lives in the 2800 block of Market Place Drive reported Aug. 7 the theft of $500 from her purse, which happened sometime in the days prior.

On Aug. 9, a report of a 91-year-old woman having her wallet stolen came in from the Dollar Tree in the 2900 block of Rice Street.

Mounds View

Accident

Police headed to the area of Quincy Street and Woodale Drive the night of Aug. 9 on a report of a property damage accident. A driver ran into a construction sign, and was cited for driving with a suspended license and no proof of insurance.

Police jargon

An Aug. 9 report states, “Officers responded to a possible slumper on the 7800 block of Sunnyside Road.”

Domestic disturbance

A father and son got into an argument in New Brighton in the early morning hours of Aug. 5, with the son running off and being found in Mounds View. Police brought the son back to his house, at which point the father fled the scene.

New Brighton

More batteries

A 45-year-old man told police Aug. 2 someone stole two truck batteries overnight, worth $150 each, from his work truck that was parked in the 100 block of Fifth Avenue.

Mystery solved

After receiving a number of notices from the Minnesota Petroleum Agency and Mounds View police regarding a number of alleged gas and goes — a July 8 theft of gas in Arden Hills, another in Mankato from July 16 and a third from Mounds View on Aug. 7 — a 30-year-old woman who lives in the 300 block of Old Highway 8 realized her license plate had been stolen, as reported to police Aug. 11.

Theft

A 40-year-old man told police the morning of Aug. 2 someone had torn his boat cover while stealing his $1,700 trolling motor. The boat was sitting on his driveway in the 800 block of Oakwood Drive; it’ll be more than $500 to replace the cover.

Worth it?

A 23-year-old man told police Aug. 2 someone smashed the passenger window on his car as it was parked in the 1100 block of Silver Lake Road and stole his wallet, which contained $1 and his ID.

Shoreview

Broken window

A 44-year-old New Brighton woman told police Aug. 11 that someone smashed a window on her car as it was parked in the 4900 block of Hodgson Road and stole her purse.

Keys inside, unlocked

Stolen bike

A 28-year-old Arden Hills man told police Aug. 11 that his motorcycle had been stolen from a parking lot in the 3400 block of Kent Street.

St. Anthony

Domestic assault

Police stopped a speeding car July 30 on St. Anthony Boulevard at Stinson Boulevard. Asked why he was driving so the fast, the 26-year-old behind the wheel said it was because he and his girlfriend had been fighting — the passenger, a 22-year-old woman, was bleeding from her face and her eyes were nearly swollen shut. While everyone waited for paramedics, police found several credit cards and ID cards in the car with various names — they were confiscated. Police interviewed the man, and the woman called her father to come take her to the hospital. The man was booked at the Hennepin County Jail, where officers discovered he’d lied about his name. He was eventually booked for felony domestic assault — he had two previous convictions for the same crime in the previous decade — and giving false information to police. More charges are possible.

Gun?

Police received a report Aug. 2 of a juvenile male with a gun at Emerald Park in the 3900 block of Macalaster Drive. Police tracked him down and found he was carrying a realistic CO2 BB gun. Identified as a 12-year-old boy, he was initially uncooperative with police. His mother came to pick him up and said the gun was hers.

Recovered car

Police got a report of an abandoned vehicle parked in the 3200 block of Belden Drive July 30 and went and checked it out. The car had previously been reported as stolen in St. Anthony, so the owner was called, and she came and picked up the car, reporting possible damage to its push-start button.

Stolen ammo from church

An 80-year-old man told police Aug. 3 he’d left his car unlocked while at Nativity Church in the 3300 block of Silver Lake Road and someone entered the car, stealing a number of items, including his cell phone, prescription sunglasses, ammunition and some tools. All said, he was out $225, though police later found the phone and returned it to him.

Sexual assault

The mother of a 16-year-old girl told police Aug. 1 the girl was sexually assaulted by a man with whom she’d agreed to meet. Police are investigating.

Theft

A man left the Cub Foods in the 3900 block of Silver Lake Road July 30 without paying for a shopping cart full of items, so an employee confronted him in the parking lot. The man and employee briefly played tug-of-war with the shopping cart, before the staffer gave up. The man left and police failed to find him.

Waiting game

A 68-year-old woman who lives in the 3600 block of Silver Lake Road told police Aug. 4 someone entered her car and took her garage door opener, which was then used to get into her garage and house. Police checked both places, as did the woman, who said the only thing stolen was the garage door opener.
