Frauds and scams and senior citizens

Presented by the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office at Gramercy Park Co-op, 5688 Brent Ave., Inver Grove Heights at 7 p.m. on Aug. 22, learn about scams targeting senior citizens. This is open to the public and free of charge.

 

Altered books

Learn to use sculpture, drawing, painting, collage and paper constructing techniques to repurpose and transform old and unloved books into works of art. Presented by Artistry. Registration is required for this event on Aug. 20 from 6 to 8 p.m., at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. E. Family law clinic

Receive a free, 30-minute consultation from a volunteer attorney regarding family law matters such as divorce, child custody, child support, visitation, paternity issues, spousal maintenance, and domestic abuse. This clinic, which will take place at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. E, is a joint program of Legal Assistance of Dakota County, the Dakota County Family Court, and the Dakota County Law Library. Root beer floats and JAM Band

Come and enjoy a root beer float, music, and dancing while socializing with friends. Floats will be served from 1 to 1:30 p.m. No registration needed for this event on Aug. 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. It will take place at Thompson Park Activity Center, 1200 Stassen Lane, West St. Paul.

 

C.O.P.S in the Park

Join the West St. Paul Police Department Aug. 23 from 5 to 8 p.m., for end of summer party with C.O.P.S. in the Park at Southview Park, 275 Westview Dr. They will be handing out school supplies, raffling off many giveaways, and enjoying Chick-fil-A. Also joining will be the Dakota County MAAG Team, the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, HealthEast, 360 Communities, South Metro Fire, Minnesota State Patrol, The Latino Peace Officers Association, MN Toward Zero Deaths,  Twin Cities Magic & Costume and many more.

 

Outdoor concert at Dodge

Back for their eighth year, Mixed Precipitation will present a lively and fun musical adaptation of an operetta Aug. 23 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Edible delights will be offered throughout the performance as part of the experience. Bring a blanket or lawn chair to sit on and join Dodge for this family friendly musical. A $10 to $20 donation is suggested per person. Suffrage Sunday

In commemoration of the 98th anniversary of women’s suffrage, South St. Paul will honor the creators of the movement and the nation’s first female voters under the 19th Amendment on Aug. 26. There will be an opening dessert reception at 1 p.m., at Christ on Capital Hill Lutheran Church, 550 University Ave. The event will then move to the memorial at 2:15 p.m., located on the lower mall at the corner of Cedar Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard.
