Payne-Phalen Community Council

The August meeting of the Payne-Phalen Community Council Board will be on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 6:30 p.m. at the Arlington Hills Community Center.  Agenda items include a non-conforming use application for a beauty salon at 1382 Payne Ave. and a presentation on St. Paul Beyond the Yellow Ribbon project. The meeting is open to the public. 


East Metro Rail Yards Improvement Project

Ramsey County is hosting an open house about the East Metro Rail Yards Improvement Project on Wednesday, Sept. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Battle Creek Recreation Center, 75 Winthrop St. S. Light refreshments will be provided. Visitors will learn more about the East Metro Rail Yards Improvement Project, including a summary of proposed improvements and preliminary environmental impacts. The project is located in St. Paul, with a study area extending from Union Depot southeast to approximately I-494. Rail improvements are needed in this area to enhance the movement of existing trains and accommodate future freight growth and passenger rail service. Over the past year Ramsey County has been working with stakeholder railroads to identify rail improvements. Meal packing event

Gustavus Adolphus Lutheran Church, located at 1669 Arcade St., will host a Side-by-Side meal packing event Sept. 15-16. East Siders can come help pack nearly 250,000 meals that will provide families in the neighborhood relief from hunger challenges. The event is being helped by other local faith communities — Arlington Hills Lutheran Church, Asalam Mosque, Christ on Capitol Hill, Firth Lutheran Good Samaritan Lutheran Church, Grace Lutheran Church, Hope Lutheran Church, North Presbyterian Church, OUr Redeemer Lutheran Church, and Presentation Catholic Church. Saturday packing start times will be 8 a.m., 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday packing start times include 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. To sign up for a packing time go to www.stpaulsidebyside.org.
