Theft thwarted in New Brighton

 

Arden Hills

No hostage, no situation

Deputies rushed to the 100 block of Karth Lake Road the night of Aug. 20 on a report of a hostage situation, but it turned out to be a false report.

 

Theft

An employee at the Cub Foods in the 3700 block of Lexington Avenue called police the afternoon of Aug. 15 to report the theft of $1,800 worth of cosmetic products — the caller saw the thief walk out of the store with the merchandise.

A parent called the police from the 1900 block of Grant Road the morning of Aug. 16 to report the theft of their child’s bike from the garage.

Mail theft

A man who lives in the 1500 block of Larpenteur Avenue reported Aug. 20 the theft of his mail.

 

Lauderdale

Party car

Police stopped a 25-year-old man Aug. 8 on Highway 280 at Larpenteur Avenue and arrested and cited him for driving with a revoked license, an open bottle of liquor in a motor vehicle, fireworks possession and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Stolen wallet

A woman reported the theft of her wallet from the 2500 block of Rice Street the afternoon of Aug. 17.

 

Mounds View

Drug robbery

A trio of teenagers was arrested just after midnight Aug. 15 after two of them, a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, tried to rob another 16-year-old boy who was trying to sell them marijuana. The two were arrested for first-degree aggravated robbery, and the other was arrested for marijuana possession.

 

Removal of a salesman

Just after 9 p.m. on Aug. 15, officers headed to the 7800 block of Greenwood Drive on a report of a suspicious person who turned out to be selling things door to door without a permit from the city. The person was advised to stop their efforts and get a permit.

 

Turn it down!

Officers headed to the 8200 block of Greenwood Drive in the wee hours of Aug. 12 on a report of a loud party and found a reasonable group of people who agreed to turn down the music.

 

New Brighton

Easy pickings

A 21-year-old man who’d parked his car in the 500 block of Fifth Avenue with the keys inside it told police Aug. 20 the vehicle’d been stolen. A 46-year-old caller told police the morning of Aug. 22 that his car, parked unlocked with the keys inside it in the 2100 block of Rockstone Lane, had been stolen.

 

Theft

A 40-year-old man told police the morning of Aug. 22 that someone had broken a window on his work van sometime overnight as it was parked in the 800 block of County Road D and stolen a paint sprayer, portable radio, sander, grinder and GPS unit, as well as the vehicle’s radio.

 

Theft thwarted!

A 55-year-old man told police he woke up around 4 a.m. inside his apartment in the 2300 block of Third Street NW to the sounds of someone trying to break into his truck as heard through his bedroom window. He yelled at the prowler, who ran off after having caused $100 worth of damage to the vehicle’s driver’s side door handle.

Theft

A 78-year-old woman told police the afternoon of Aug. 16 someone had stolen her wallet while she was at the Shoreview YMCA in the 3700 block of Lexington Avenue and used her debit card at multiple stores for purchases.

Back room bandit

Employees at the Hidden Treasures Thrift Store located in the 2900 block of Pentagon Drive reported the theft of cash and credit cards from the store’s employee lockers Aug. 11. A suspicious man had been seen wandering around the store and soon after two employees discovered that one had lost $120 cash from her purse and that another was out $4 and two cards. She called the bank and was advised the thief had already attempted two purchases with the cards but they’d both been declined.

 

Check fraud

Officers arrested an 18-year-old man after he attempted to cash a stolen check for $950 Aug. 6 at the Bremer Bank in the 2400 block of Lowry Avenue. The bank called the police because employees were suspicious; the owner of the check said they’d reported it as stolen and had closed the account. The man was booked at the Hennepin County Jail for felony check forgery.

 

Lock the car

A 50-year-old man who lives in the 3400 block of Skycroft Drivereported Aug. 6 that someone had rummaged through his unlocked vehicle overnight — the prowler took 10 pairs of sunglasses, tools and three flashlights.

 

Stolen packages

An 38-year-old woman who lives in the 3100 block of Silver Lake Road reported Aug. 7 the theft of $152 worth of just-delivered Amazon packages from her home.

 

Theft

A 40-year-old woman who lives at apartments in the 2800 block of Silver Lane reported Aug. 11 the theft of a bike and bike rack from her garage, a loss of $450. The garage lock had been damaged.

 

Two-piece theft

A 31-year-old woman who works at a clinic in the 2600 block of 39th Avenue reported Aug. 9 the theft of her purse from an employee-only area — a suspicious man had been seen inside the business at the time of the theft. A short time later, employees at the Game Stop in the 2700 block of 39th Avenue reported a suspicious purchase — a man had used two different credit cards for $448.46 worth of merchandise. Working with both the woman and the store, police think the same 24-year-old man stole the purse then used credit cards from inside it to make the purchase at the store.
