The replica Aiwan Pavilion, a gift from St. Paul’s sister city of Changsha, China, is coming along at Lake Phalen Regional Park. As seen on a rainy Aug. 28, Chinese craftsmen were working on adding shingles to the roof and painting sections of the pavilion. Work began at the end of July and is part of the Changsha China Friendship Garden of Whispering Willows and Flowing Waters project. This phase of construction also includes a Hmong Heritage Wall behind the pavilion and an entrance arch near the pavilion. Future additions, once more money is raised, will include a Hmong Cultural Plaza, an arched Chinese bridge and a Lakeside Learning Pavilion.
