LETTER: Tax cut: Not mere 'crumbs'

To the Editor:

I wish to thank Rep. Jason Lewis and the entire Republican contingent in Congress for showing some leadership and voting to allow citizens to keep more of their hard-earned money. I refer to the tax bill that was passed through the House and Senate in 2017 and signed by the president.

All told, my wife and I now have additional disposable income over the course of 12 months after implementation of the tax cuts that became effective in February 2018. That additional money has allowed us to dedicate dollars to our daughter to finish her nursing degree and not deplete any savings we have. Better yet, with that additional money available, she has made a confident decision not to seek any money from a student loan program to cover tuition and other educational costs.

Nancy Pelosi's "crumbs" comment regarding the tax cuts rings hollow to income earners who have seen real and tangible improvements in family finances as result of the tax cut. Hopefully, Congress will see fit to make those tax cuts permanent.
