Tour de Trash

Get a behind the scenes look at what happens to your trash and recycling in Dakota County. Tour includes a landfill, compost site, recycling center and The Recycling Zone on Sept. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost is $10 and includes busing and lunch. Register at and search “trash tour.” The tour will begin at the Lebanon Hills Visitor Center, 860 Cliff Road, Eagan. Registration deadline is Sept. 27. To ensure a positive learning experience, field trip size is limited to 30 people on a first-come, first-served basis.


Family Fun Day

Touch a Truck is a fun, educational, “hands-on” experience for children of all ages, families and friends. Vehicles include a Fire Truck, Paving Dump Truck, Tow Truck, Police Car, Ambulance, and many more! Open to all, no registration is needed. There will be raffles, live music, henna tattoo, kids games, bounce house, local food vendors and business booths. Neighbors, Inc. Duck Races will be held during Family Fun Day this year. It is free to watch and $5 per duck adoption. One-hundred percent of proceeds from Duck Races go to support Neighbors Inc.


Fishing derby

The City of South St. Paul is partnering with Cole VanKempen in earning his Eagle Scout ranking. VanKempen is inviting 24 youth, ages 8-14, to a free Fishing Derby on Sunday, Sept. 30 at the DNR Fishing Pier in South St. Paul.  They will show you how to fish at the Mississippi River and teach you some techniques to have fun and be safe while fishing. There will be three sessions comprised of eight youth in each session. Sessions will take place at 1:15, 1:45 and 2:15 p.m. Pre-registration is required.
