LETTER: Adopt drains

To the Editor:

Do you have a catch basin near your home? You know, the places where the rain runs down the gutter and over a steel grate. With the recent heavy rains, a number of these were covered with leaves and sticks. This can cause some serious issues like street flooding and an accumulation of unwanted debris in the sewers, which causes problems in our rivers and lakes.

What can we do? After a rain, please simply clean up what is left on the grate. This will let the water flow in the future. It’s just that easy. With that you are helping the environment and your neighbors. If we all adopt a drain, or a few near where we live, think of the positive implications for our community.
