Correction: Author talk in St. Anthony

William Kent Krueger will discuss “Why Books Matter” on Monday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Legacy of St. Anthony, 2540 Kenzie Terrace in St. Anthony. Although books enrich our lives in many ways, the written word is under attack. How can we fight back? Krueger is the New York Times best-selling author of the Cork O’Connor series. Book sales and signing will be available after the presentation. Presented by Friends of the St. Anthony Library and the Legacy of St. Anthony. Sunrise United Methodist Church fall craft fair and bake sale

The Sunrise United Methodist Church fall craft fair and bake sale is on Saturday, Oct. 27, starting at 9 a.m. There will be craft vendors, baked goods, a silent auction and quilt raffle. Home-baked rolls and coffee will be available from 9 to 11 a.m., and lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will be grilled chicken breast, homemade mashed potatoes, Caesar salad, stuffed mushrooms and pie for desert. Holiday craft sale at Fairview Community Center

The Roseville Gift and Craft Shoppe annual holiday sale is Thursday to Saturday, Oct. 25-27, at the Fairview Community Center, 1910 County Road B in Roseville. The hours are Thursday and Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. People can shop for hundreds of holiday items such as baked goods, pottery, wood toys and game boards, weaving, jewelry, clothing, photography, winter mittens and hats, holiday decorations and more. The Roseville Gift and Craft Shoppe has been serving the community for more than 40 years. Shoreview Halloween event

The City of Shoreview is hosting its Halloween Spooktacular on Friday, Oct. 26, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Shoreview Community Center. The City of Arden Hills is hosting the Halloween Boo Bash on Saturday, Oct. 27, starting at 5:30 p.m. at Arden Hills City Hall. Join in for a pizza dinner, games, pumpkin carving and much more. ‘Spook-tacular’ Saturday

Goblins, ghostly games, storytelling and a Halloween hayride await you at Harriet Alexander Nature Center, 2520 Dale St. N., in Roseville. Put on your favorite costume and join in for a Spook-tacular Halloween evening of fun on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 4:30 and 7 p.m.

The adventure includes a fun and colorful hayride, with displays along the route. Carnival games, nature programs and special treats are also on the evening’s agenda.

Fun for kids of all ages and especially for kids 10 years and younger. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The cost is $6.50 per person. Participants register for a specific time for the hayrides. Call 651-792-7110 to select a time between 4:30 and 7:00 p.m.
