Rosedale curbs Sunday morning dog walks

file photo After just more than a year of opening up for dog walkers on Sunday mornings, Rosedale Center has called it quits on the canines.

Sunday mornings were going to the dogs at Rosedale Center — and few seemed to mind — but the canines are welcome no more.

The Roseville mall said in a Feb. 18 tweet that it had ended its weekly dog-walking-is-welcome hours.

“Dog lovers: We have loved sharing our Sundays with you,” the social media posting said. “Unfortunately, with our recent renovations and the inability to recover the center before it’s open to the public, we have to cancel dog walking.”

The tweet went on to offer a link to other dog-friendly places.

Dog walking started Sunday mornings at Rosedale in January 2018 from 9 to 11 a.m., first as a winter weather refuge.

Based on a strong response, the mall kept the Sunday mornings going, leaning into them by sometimes booking pro photographers to take pictures of people and their pooches. The hashtag #dogsofrosedale turns up 144 posts on Instagram.

The mall’s concern for the cleanliness of its recent renovations is no surprise.

It dropped some $80 million into updating the entire center and building a 141,000-square-foot addition to the building that became the Von Maur department store.

In recent months the mall has also opened new and novel concepts, such as the Rose and Loon  that includes wares from local makers, and Revolution Hall, which features an open floor plan and food from a number of unique restaurants.
