New Taco Bell coming to Oakdale

Solomon Gustavo/Review The Oakdale City Council March 26 gave the green light for a Taco Bell to be built at Bergen Plaza off 10th Street. The new restaurant should be open this fall.

At its March 26 meeting, the Oakdale City Council approved the construction of a new Taco Bell in the Bergen Plaza shopping center off 10th Street.

The Taco Bell would be at the corner of Hadley Avenue and 10th.

Last year, the city approved Bergen Plaza’s request for replatting the shopping area to make room for new development, said Oakdale City Planner Emily Shively.

Border Foods, a Minnesota-based Taco Bell franchisee, proposed filling the development space with the restaurant on the east side of the plaza.

It would have a drive-thru, which Shively said the company expects a large portion of its business to come from. As such, she added, the Taco Bell doesn’t need a lot of parking.

A Border Foods representative was on hand at the March 26 meeting to answer any questions from city council members. He said hours of operation have not yet been set, but expects the open time to be around 7 a.m. and weekday closing around 2 a.m., with weekend closing around 3 a.m.

Oakdale’s Planning Commission, at its March 7 meeting, reviewed the plan and recommended council approval. The council unanimously approved.

Construction is set to begin in June and is expected to take roughly three months.
