Painting with colored pencils

For the beginner who wants to learn shading, layering, blending and many, many more techniques that will turn any picture or photograph into an original work of art. The class includes over $37 worth of supplies that you will own. Register by June 4 for the sessions starting June 11 and running on Tuesdays through July 23 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. The cost for the six sessions is $48. South St. Paul Yellow Ribbon Town Hall Meeting

 Join the South St. Paul Yellow Ribbon Committee for a town hall meeting and open house on June 4 at the South St. Paul City Hall, 125 Third Ave. N. There will be a meet and greet from 6:30 to 7 p.m. with a program starting at 7 p.m. Speakers will include JT Malm, family assistance specialist from the Rosemount Family Assistance Center, Mike Windsperger, the Central MN Yellow Ribbon regional outreach coordinator, and Lil Forseth, family readiness support assistant with 34th Expeditionary Combat Aviation Brigade. Kickball tournament

TriDistrict Community Education – Family Programming is teaming up with the city of Mendota Heights to throw a Community Kickball Tournament. Community members are invited to create teams of eight to 15 people for a day of fun, food and friendship. Each team must have at least four children on their roster. Each registered participant will also receive a meal on the day of the tournament. Teams will only need one person to register on the TriDistirct Community Education website at tridistrict.ce.eleyo.com or by phone at 651-403-8313. Registration is open through June 3. The tournament will run from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m., June 9 at Mendakota Park, 2171 Dodd Road.

 

Global Bibliobop

From 10:30 to 11:15 a.m., June 7, have fun with books and music found around the world with DJ Ms. Amy. Intended for children ages 2 to 8, this will be at the South St. Paul Library, 106 Third Ave. N.

 

Movie in the Pool

Join West St. Paul for a free community night at the West St. Paul City Pool, 92 Orme St. W. Float around and enjoy Disney’s “Moana.” Children under 10 years of age must be accompanied by a guardian 16 years or older. The building will open to the public at 8 p.m., with water features on until 8:40 p.m. “Moana” will begin at 9 a.m., with concessions available for purchase from 8 to 10 p.m.

 

Spring Swing Big Band hangar dance

Join the Commemorative Air Force Minnesota Wing for its Spring Swing Big Band Hangar Dance 2019 on June 8 at Fleming Field, 320 Airport Road, Hanger 3, in South St. Paul. The cost is $17 per person or $14.50 for presale. Music will be provided by the Roseville Big Band with free dance lesson from TC Swing & Rhythm & Swing. Doors open at 6 p.m., with dance lessons starting at 7 p.m. Dancing starts at 8 p.m. and goes to midnight. There’ll be music, dancing, food, aircraft tours, door prizes, WWII costume contest with prizes for best WWII era dress and more. Proceeds from the dance benefit the museum. You must print your tickets or show the ticket confirmation on your mobile device the night of the dance. Student and Military ID tickets available at the door only. This event is all ages.

 

Coney with a Cop

Visit The Coop, 157 Third Ave. S., June 8 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for the rescheduled Coney with a Cop.

 

 

Summer reading kick-off party

Celebrate the start of summer reading with ice cream and games. Bring your reading list and find great books to read this summer. Presented in part by Friends of Wentworth Library, this is for children up to age 12. The party will run from 10 to 11:30 a.m., June 8 at the West St. Paul Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. E.

 

Tire collection 

Take advantage of this free event to dispose of old tires. Drop off your tires without rims at the West St. Paul Public Works Building, 403 Marie Ave. Up to eight tires of any size will be accepted from each household. Minnesota master naturalist course

Join Minnesota Master Naturalists at Dodge. Dodge Nature Center features wetlands, maple-basswood forest, and acres of restored prairie. Dodge includes a model of an early 1900s working farm, and a modern aviary, housing non-releasable raptors that are used in programming and education. Using the nature center as a home base, explore the flora and fauna on location, and also take daily field trips to the Mississippi River to learn about the geologic and cultural history. Explore the human impact in this area from the time of woodland native people, and see how the river is still shaping our lives in current day. In addition to indoor and outdoor classroom learning, participants will complete a group service project in partnership with the host organization, Dodge Nature Center, 365 Marie Ave. W., West St. Paul. Homeward Bound Theatre

Homeward Bound Theatre Company will offer “The Sneetches” June 17 through 20 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the Kaposia Education Center, 1225 First Ave. S, in South St. Paul where third- through sixth-graders will learn the basics of acting and theatre: movement, vocal articulation and enunciation, breathing techniques, the mirror game, pantomime, conflict resolution, character development, monologue, dialogue and group dynamics.  With a focus on the natural ability of children to pretend, actors will play out children’s literature such as “Dr. Seuss”, “Stone Soup” and other favorite stories, as well as creating our own improvisation plays. Paul All City Garage sale

Meditation with Arvind

In this fast-paced world, is there a way to decompress, regain center and experience the peace many seek? Join Arvind Naik, long time meditator as he explores the power of meditation to help transform lives and find the quiet within. This program will be held at Lorraine Park, 756 Third Ave S, South St. Paul, on June 3 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

 

Bike rodeo

The West St. Paul Bike Rodeo is a free event where kids from kindergarten through sixth-grade can learn about bike safety, have fun on a bike obstacle course and get a free grab bag. There will also be a bike helmet giveaway while supplies last. Bring your bicycle and helmet. The West St. Paul Bike Rodeo will be held Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Wentworth Library, 199 Wentworth Ave. Registration with the Wentworth Library, www.co.dakota.mn.us, begins June 2.

 

Founders Day

Old Salem Shrine, which is also known as the Little White Church, in Inver Grove Heights will hold an open house with refreshments from 1 to 3 p.m., followed by its annual Founders Day service from 3 to 4 p.m., June 2. The public is invited to see how worship was held in the 1800s with kerosene lamps and an authentic pump organ. Old Salem Shrine is located at Upper 55th Street and Annette Avenue East. Muffins with the Mayor

Mayor David Napier would love to listen and share with residents of West St. Paul how he and his constituents can be the change that matters in West St. Paul.
