Attempted child luring in Mounds View

An attempted child luring was reported in Mounds View the afternoon of July 29 in the vicinity of Edgewood Middle School.

According to a news release issued by the Mounds View Police Department, a 10-year-old boy was inline skating by himself when an older man pulled up to talk to the boy near the intersection of Irondale Road and Woodale Drive around 1:15 p.m.

According to the report, the man was driving a white SUV. He got out of the vehicle, approached the boy and said, “Your mother asked me to pick you up.”

When the boy didn’t believe him, the man returned to his vehicle and left the scene. He was described as a white man, roughly 5-feet-5-inches tall with short gray hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a T-shirt and shorts.

Police Chief Nate Harder couldn’t be reached for comment, but the department recently shared a guide from the Minnesota Sheriff’s Department featuring safety tips for parents.

The graphic, posted to the department’s Twitter account, encouraged families to become familiar with various mobile phone apps, some of which have location-sharing features. For more information check the @MNSheriffs Twitter account.

According to the release, the police department is planning to increase its presence near the area of the incident. Anyone with information about it is asked to contact the department at 763-717-4070.
