Though summer continues its slide toward the State Fair and then that first day of school, work on a number of area roadways continues, or has just begun.

While the Minnesota Department of Transportation adds lanes to Interstate 35W north out of Roseville, work that will continue for the next couple of years, Ramsey County is carrying out its own slate of construction.

It announced late last month the beginning of some new projects, along with some updated timelines for other ongoing work. Use the following entries along with the map above to keep track of much of the county’s road work in the north suburbs.

1. Lexington Avenue resurfacing. In late July crews began removing the surface layer of Lexington Avenue between County Road C2 in Roseville and County Road E in Shoreview, which will be replaced with new, smoother pavement. The road is open to local traffic only, and through traffic should use alternate routes. The county expects the resurfacing to be complete by the middle of August.

2. Larpenteur Avenue four- to three-lane conversion. Work to restripe Larpenteur Avenue between Dale and Rice streets, from Roseville to Maplewood and bordering St. Paul, should be wrapping as of press time. The road will go from two lanes of traffic in both directions to a single lane in either direction, with a center turn lane.

Temporary pedestrian crossing areas will also be added at Larpenteur’s intersections with Mackubin, Cumberland and Galtier Streets, and Woodbridge Court.

The four- to three-lane conversion is part of a countywide effort to improve safety on county roads. Larpenteur will be resurfaced next year and the lane conversion will be made permanent from Dale Street to Interstate 35E.

3. County Road C reconstruction. The reconstruction of County Road C between New Brighton Boulevard on the border of St. Anthony and Long Lake Road in Roseville continues. A paved trail is being added along the south side of the road.

The county expects to complete work on the westbound lanes of the road and begin work on the eastbound side the middle of this month. Traffic is currently reduced to one lane in both directions, which will last into the fall. Expect delays on County Road C.

4. Larpenteur Avenue concrete repair. Crews are repairing concrete on Larpenteur Avenue from Malvern Street in Lauderdale to Snelling Avenue in Falcon Heights. That work should continue through mid-August, while related work on signage, signals and striping should continue through the early fall. Work will be halted during the State Fair.

5. Interstate 694 and Rice Street interchange rebuild. Work continues at the confluence of Little Canada, Vadnais Heights and Shoreview to rebuild the I-694 interchange at Rice Street. Various disruptions in the area of the project will continue through its completion in 2020.
