Crash kills woman, child in Inver Grove Heights

The Inver Grove Heights Police Department is investigating a crash that occurred early in the morning of Aug. 31 that led to the deaths of a woman and child.

Around 7:30 a.m. first responders were dispatched to the intersection of 80th Street and Bowman Avenue on a report of an accident. When they arrived, they found two vehicles that had collided, with a total of six occupants. All six were taken to the hospital, where two later died from their injuries — a 39-year-old woman and a 5-year-old girl, both from Inver Grove Heights.

According to a police press release, two other children are being treated for injuries, while the driver and passenger of the other vehicle were treated as well.

The Minnesota State Patrol is helping reconstruct the collision. The names of the deceased had not been released as of press time.

A woman was recently charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run this January near 80th Street and Blaine Avenue — about a 1,000 feet from the scene of the fatal crash — in which she struck a pedestrian and left the scene.
