Irondale, St. Anthony advance in softball playoffs

The fastpitch softball teams from Irondale High School and St. Anthony Village High School had success in their respective section tournaments on Tuesday. Both squads remained unbeaten in the post-season and are in action again on Thursday.

Huskies chip in for championship

The Spring Lake Park/St. Anthony Village boys track and field team claimed its four consecutive North Suburban Conference championship last Thursday. A number of St. Anthony students helped the team earn points toward that title.
Five different athletes from St. Anthony won individual events at the meet held at St. Francis High School.

Back and fourth at true team state

The boys and girls track and field teams from Mounds View High School competed in the Class AAA state true-team meet on Friday and came home with identical fourth-place finishes. It was the first time both Mustang squads captured the same the place at true team state since finishing as runners-up in 2008.

Mounds View alum earns college honor

Former Mounds View High School softball standout Taylor Daas’ play this season helped her college team reach the national tournament and she was rewarded for her efforts. Earlier this month, Daas was named first-team all-conference.
Daas, a sophomore shortstop at Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, was one of four Morningside players named to the all-Great Plains Athletic Conference first team. The Mustangs played in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics national tournament last week.

Knights, Panthers sets sights on conference meet

The track and field teams from Irondale High School and Spring Lake Park/St. Anthony Village were unable to advance to the state true-team meet but they still have plenty to compete for this week. All four squads will compete on Tuesday and Thursday for the North Suburban Conference championships.

Athena Award winners honored

The Athena Award winners from all three Bulletin-area high schools were honored recently at their respective banquets. Mounds View High School’s Katie McDaniels and Irondale High School’s Lindsey Kueng were among the St. Paul-area winners honored at a banquet on April 17 while St. Anthony Village’s Kirsten Whitney was among the Minneapolis-area winners honored at a banquet on May 3.

The College of St. Scholastica men’s track and field team won its second consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference outdoor team championship on Saturday with a little help from a former St. Anthony Village High School athlete.

Mounds View grad earns college honor

Former Mounds View High School football standout Ian Goldsmith was named a member of the 2013 National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society. The honor goes to college football players who have maintained a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.2 throughout their college career.
