Ramsey County attorney files criminal charges against local Catholic hierarchy
On Friday, June 5, Ramsey County Attorney John Choi announced his office would file criminal charges, as well as a civil petition, against the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis over its handling of former Roman Catholic priest Curtis Wehmeyer.
“The facts that we have gathered cannot be ignored, they cannot be dismissed, and are frankly appalling, especially when viewed in their totality,” Choi said during a media briefing on Friday, June 5. “The story of Curtis Wehmeyer and how he came to sexually abuse three young boys cannot be told without including the organization and its hierarchy that ordained him and at all relevant times had the power to remove him.”
