Following a sixth-place finish in the conference meet a year ago, the Tartan High School boys cross country team is looking for a marked improvement this season.
The Hill-Murray volleyball team put together quite a season a year ago. There was a conference championship, a section title and a trip to the state tournament, where the Pioneers were the consolation champions.
The Hill-Murray football team, under new head coach Pete Bercich, opens the 2016 in search of a turnaround. The Pioneers went winless in the regular season a year ago.
The Tartan High School football team opens its season on Friday with a visit from Hill-Murray. The Titans’ only victory in 2015 was a season-opening 22-13 win over the Pioneers.
Playoff victories have not come easily for the North High School girls soccer team in recent years. The Polars have been one-and-done in the post-season in each of the past seven seasons.
North is out to change that this fall.
The strength of a football team is often measured by what it has on the offensive and defensive lines. That bodes well for the North High Polars this fall.
The 2015 North High School boys soccer team appeared poised for a trip to the state tournament. The Polars lost just twice in the regular season but were tripped up in the section final.
Compared to some of the competition, the North High School boys cross country team is running a little low on athletes. That doesn’t worry head coach Dave Terry, however.
The cross country teams from Hill-Murray didn’t place all that high in the section meet at the end of the season but head coach Tim Ryan called it a fun season.
The calendar might say August but autumn is on the minds of plenty of people this week, especially anyone associated with high school sports.
