Softball: South St. Paul takes it on the chin at North

Packers rebound against Titans in doubleheader action
In makeup Classic Suburban Conference softball action Wednesday, May 14 at McKnight Fields, the North High power-hitters dismantled the Packers by a score of 22-3 in a five-inning game.
“We started out OK,” said South St. Paul head coach Paul Moen, “but then we never have fared well against North. That 13-run inning really hurt us.”

Polars take the wind out of Zephyrs in softball

The cold, brisk northwest wind and cool temperatures of May 9 weren’t a hindrance to the “Senior Day” celebration prior to the Mahtomedi and North softball game.
The North bats did more to put a chill into the Mahtomedi Zephyrs than anything else that occurred at McKnight Field.

It was 6-4 when the dust settled on a well-played Hill-Murray vs. Simley softball game at the Pioneers’ home field May 5.
But it was a very near thing.

The Hill-Murray Pioneers hosted the Tartan Titans in the cool, breezy, overcast weather of May 7, in a Classic Suburban Conference baseball game.
On the mound for the Titans was Eric Winter. The senior hurler went the distance  and on a couple of occasions pitched his way out of two or three difficult situations.

Boys golf: Hill-Murray looking for right combination to repeat as CSC champions

The Hill-Murray Pioneers have high hopes of repeating as the Classic Suburban Conference boys golf champions, but head coach Kris Oftedahl knows there are plenty of others waiting in the wings to put up better scores.
The veteran head golf tutor said recently, “We are looking for good things. Especially from the four players we have returning from last year’s conference championship team.

Boys golf: North looking for improvement from young players

The North High boys golf team has returned to links this season with many inexperienced players on its roster.
“I hope the youngsters we have work hard on their game to improve,” North head coach Jim Pearson said. “Playing against other schools will show them they have to work on their game to have success. The attitudes of our team members are great.”
