North, Tartan bumped from playoffs
The Johnson Governors watched Pioneers Marshawn Wilson and Sam Westby put on a two-man show that ended with Hill-Murray gaining a 54-34 triumph Saturday, Oct. 25.
The win propelled the No. 2-seed Pioneers into the finals of the Section 4AAAA football playoffs, where they will face the South St. Paul Packers at 7 p.m., Oct 31 at South St. Paul.
North finishes undefeated in EMC
Throughout the 2014 season, the Tartan volleyball squad has been improving with each game.
At the same time, the North High volleyball team has seemingly been improving by leaps and bounds.

Simley Spartans stop Polars
As they headed into their Wednesday, Oct. 15 football game, the Hill-Murray Pioneers had a specific opening plan against the Tartan Titans in Oakdale.
Hill-Murray coach Tony Danna explained, "We talked about it in the locker room that we were going to score on our first drive.
Ice Arena to construct two new locker rooms for the Hill-Murray hockey program. The Hill-Murray boys hockey program has entered into a unique partnership with Ramsey County to build its own locker rooms at Aldrich Ice Arena.
Win gives North the Metro East Title
This year the new Metro East Conference was formed. Although the schools in the MEC are pretty much the same as the former Classic Suburban Conference, there's definitely a sense that it's a new era.
People still ask, 'Who is Ruth?'
For quite a while, I have ended my columns with "Hey Ruth, you hang in there!"
I don't intend to stop, but now an explanation is once again in order.
The "Ruth" in question was Ruth Goethel. She was the wife of Arno Goethel, the former executive sports editor of the St. Paul Dispatch and Pioneer Press.
