When Jack Burke got to a Rainy River boat landing around 6 a.m. May 4, he couldn’t have anticipated the success he would have fishing that day, but by 11 a.m.
When seeds from a nearby cottonwood tree came to rest in the grass May 23 at North St. Paul’s Dorothy Park, they looked like a light accumulation of snow flurries.

Car show, Relay For Life events are June 1
Although summer doesn’t officially start until June 21, North St. Paul will mark the first of the month as the unofficial start of the season.
In an effort to reduce crowding and be proactive about the area’s growing population, North St. Paul-Maplewood-Oakdale School District 622 has begun planning for remodeling work to be done at two area elementary schools.

During Minnesotans for a Smoke-Free Generation Day on March 22, the students met with Reps. Leon Lillie and Peter Fischer, as well as Sen. Chuck Wiger, at the Capitol, and in April, they met with Maplewood Mayor Nora Slawik.
Cities changing the tobacco sales age from 18 to 21 is a growing trend in the metro area. The week of May 7, Shoreview and Falcon Heights became the first east metro cities to join the trend, which includes five other cities in Minnesota.
