It gives me great pleasure to announce Simley High School was ranked the 18th best public high school in Minnesota in the Washington Post’s annual High School Challenge. Simley was 1 of 30 high schools in Minnesota this year and nationally ranked 836. This marks the 7th year Simley has been recognized. Congratulations to the Simley staff for this wonderful achievement. 5. Heidi Klukas and several 9th grade students currently participating in the skills and leadership group presented to the Board a little bit about the program and the students shared how it has made a difference in their lives. Since last school year, Dakota County has partnered with nonprofits People Incorporated, Kente Circle, and PACE (The Pan-African Community Endowment) to sponsor a Skills and Leadership Group for 9th grade girls at Simley High School. Through this program, students have learned how to be leaders among their peers and set goals for themselves. Students have also met with adult mentors to learn about career options and what it takes to have a successful future. 6. Deana Walsh, Joe Grafft, and Dr. Jack McBride along with several students currently enrolled in the EMT class here at Simley provided a demonstration to the School Board showing examples of some of the emergency response skills they have learned while participating in the program. Ms. Walsh shared the incredible success of the program this year and how helpful it has been for students to gain real life experience to help prepare them to be college ready. The experience has given some students the tools necessary to create future goals in a medical related field that they didn’t necessarily have prior to the class. 7.
