New Minnesota Room opening in April

For nearly three decades, Furlong’s Liquor has been a staple in the east metro, offering one of the largest selections of wines, beers and spirits in the region, and at competitive prices. The store is currently being expanded to provide an even greater selection of products. Brothers Terry and Dan Furlong are gearing up to open their store’s new Minnesota Room, which will add an additional 1,500-square-feet of retail space.

“We’re very excited. It’s been a long time coming and we’ve worked hard to expand,” older brother Dan says.

Terry adds that the Minnesota Room, set to open in April, will have an “up-north feel,” reminiscent of a lakeside lodge.

The Minnesota Room at Furlong’s will be amply stocked with a variety of craft beers.

“We like the idea of shopping local,” Terry says. “Minnesota is becoming a real craft brewing area with new microbreweries popping up, and so many great beers now available.”

The new addition at Furlong’s will also feature several wines and spirits from local wineries and distilleries. Terry says they will have a tasting area, where customers can sample new products at a cozy wood bar next to a Minnesota-themed mural. Representatives from local breweries and distilleries will also be on hand to talk about their products and help shoppers pick out the perfect beer, wine or spirit for any occasion.

Furlong’s commitment to providing great customer service hasn’t wavered over the years. It’s the brothers’ passion for great service that keeps people coming back year after year and from generation to generation. Whether you’re looking to fill a large order for a dinner party or simply want a six-pack to take on your fishing boat for the afternoon, Furlong’s staff will help you find exactly what you’re looking for.

For the beer aficionados, Furlong’s will keep you up-to-date on the newest brews through its “Beer Club.” It also has a wine club, where members can enjoy two or more bottles of fine wines every month, as well as take seasonal trips to local vineyards, with Dan — “the wine guru” — leading the popular tours.

Terry and Dan have continued their grandfather’s affinity for giving back to the local community. Over the years, the Furlongs have taken part in numerous community events and have donated thousands of dollars toward community betterment projects in both Oakdale and North St. Paul. Terry also volunteers his time as a North St. Paul City Council member.

Every year, the brothers head south to Kentucky, where they hand-pick a special single-barrel bourbon. The proceeds help fund a local project. The demand for the bourbon is so high it often sells out in hours. This year for the store’s 28th anniversary, Furlong’s selected Bernheim Original Kentucky Straight Whiskey, a 7-year-old winter wheat bourbon from the famous Heaven Hill Distillery.

Available for a short time only, sales of this rare and highly sought-after whiskey will go toward funding the North St. Paul Veterans Memorial. The memorial is located near North High School and is expected to be finished later this spring.

“We’re proud to be a part of this community, and to be very involved with it is something we’ve always seen as important,” Terry says.
