Mark Mauer resigns from Hill-Murray

Mark Mauer, who has served as Hill-Murray High School’s head varsity football coach since May 2012, will not be returning to his job at the school.

He resigned last week after being picked up Feb. 19 during a police  sting in Fridley. He was arrested for misdemeanor soliciting prostitution.

Athletic Director Bill Lechner said the school would be posting the coaching position in about a month, and that he had already received several applications for the job due to the high-profile nature of Mauer’s arrest for allegedly soliciting sex from an undercover female cop.

In addition to his coaching job, Mauer also was the school’s financial development officer.

This is the third year in a row that the Catholic high school in Maplewood will be hiring a new head football coach.

When asked about the new search during an interview following Mauer’s resignation, Lechner sighed and said, “Here we go again.”
