Inquiring minds: pros and cons of social networking sites

Each week the staff at the Roseville Library answers more than 2,500 questions on every subject under the sun. Here are some of the most interesting ones they’ve gotten lately.

Q. For a school assignment, my son has to argue the pros and cons of social networking sites. What would be a good starting point for him to gather information?

A. The Library subscribes to an excellent database called Points of View Reference Center for just such projects as this one.
Your son will be able to find well-constructed arguments on both sides of over 250 issues in current affairs and other hot questions of the day. You can also use the site to find articles and other information on related topics and other aspects of the issue. It’s designed to give your junior or senior high student a head start on what could otherwise become an overwhelming research process. To log on to this database, you can check the Library’s website at www.rclreads.org or talk to one of our librarians.
