Inver Glen Library events

Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave E, Inver Grove Heights, will have a program called Stop Motion Animation with OgoBild on Tuesday, March 15,from  3 to 4 p.m.

Kids, ages 7 to 12, will create interesting characters using OgoBild parts and make their own animated movie. Registration required. 

Inver Glen Library will have Storytime on Thursday, March 17, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. All ages are welcome to join in the songs and stories. 

Inver Glen Library will have Storytime for Babies on Friday, March 18, from 10:30 to 11 a.m. 

Stories, songs, bounces and playtime make this storytime perfect for children newborn to 24 months and their caregivers. 

Inver Glen Library will have a Waggin Tales program on Saturday, March 19, from 11 a.m. to noon. Kids, ages 5 to 10, will get to read to certified therapy dogs. This program is not only fun, it helps develop reading skills and fluency.

Nature after Dinner: animal tracking

Learn to read the stories left behind in mud and snow. On Thursday, March 17, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., learn about the tracks and signs animals leave behind. 

Whose tracks are these? After the program you will know. The program takes place at Dodge Nature Center’s Farm Entrance, 1701 Charlton St., West St. Paul.

This program is designed for kids ages 3 to 8. All children must be accompanied by at least one adult. Whole families are welcome. Cost is $5. 


Salem to host  Prayer Day event

Salem Lutheran Church, 11 W. Bernard St., in West St. Paul, has been chosen to host an annual event called United in Prayer Day on Saturday, March 19, from 9:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.  

This one-day event, held in dozens of countries at the same time, is sponsored by Contemplative Outreach -- an ecumenical network of Christian meditators who “seek to live ordinary lives with extraordinary love.”  The day will consist of a video featuring the Rev. Carl Arico, a co-founder of Contemplative Outreach, who will talk about “Centering Prayer: A Way of Life.”  

It also includes discussion, centering prayer, hospitality and lunch.  No RSVPs necessary.

On Tuesday, March 15, receive a free 30-minute consultation from a volunteer attorney regarding Family Law matters, such as domestic abuse, custody, child support or visitation from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wentworth Library, 199 E. Wentworth Ave., West St. Paul.

Red Cross blood drive

On Thursday, March 17, stop by St. Thomas Academy, 949 Mendota Heights Road, Mendota Heights, and help fill up the blood banks. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at St. Thomas from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. No registration required. 


Intro to aromatherapy

On Tuesday, March 15, visit Henry Sibley High School, 1897 W. Moreland Ave. West St. Paul, for a Boomers More or Less activity. From 6:30 to 8 p.m., Valerie Klotz will teach people how to enrich their body, life and spirit with the aromatic properties of essential oils.

Boys basketball banquet

The South St. Paul boys basketball banquet will be on Tuesday, March 15, at 6 p.m., South St. Paul Secondary cafeteria, 700 N. Second St.  This event is open to the public. 

Tickets are $6 and can be purchased at the door.

Voice of the Minnesota Gophers, public address announcer Dick Jonckowski, will be a guest speaker. 


Book sale

Friends of the Wentworth Library are hosting a winter book sale on Saturday, March 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Wentworth Library, 199 E. Wentworth Ave., West St. Paul. Thousands of gently used books, CDs, DVDs and magazines will be on sale. 

There will be a bargain bag/box sale starting at 3 p.m. This sale offers a wide range of fiction and non-fiction for all ages and interests, including many large-print editions. 

Friends of the Wentworth Library is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to support and enhance the library’s mission to provide lifelong learning for all residents of Dakota County. A preview sale for Friends of the Wentworth Library will be held from 3 to 5:30 p.m. on Friday March 18. New members can sign up at that time. 


Simple seed starting

Gardening season is around the corner, and now is a good time to start seeds for annuals to enhance your yard. On Saturday, March 19, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., the Dodge Nature Center will teach an easy technique that doesn’t require indoor space, lighting or heat mats. Instead, participants will find out how to set up plastic containers outside and let nature do the work. 

Bring along an empty half-gallon milk, and use the Dodge Farm Entrance, 1701 Charlton St., West St. Paul. Pre-registration is required and cost is $7. 


Fix-it clinic

On Saturday, March 18, from noon to 4 p.m., residents can bring up to five small items to be repaired or mended to the Inver Glen Library, 8098 Blaine Ave., Inver Grove Heights. Bring in small household electronics, clothing and more and receive free, guided assistance to fix your item. Common items include coffee pots, fans, jewelry and clothes with tears or holes. 


Good Samaritan Society fundraiser

The Good Samaritan Society - Inver Grove Heights will be hosting its annual spring brunch and silent auction starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 2 at the Mendakota Country Club, 2075 Mendakota Dr., Mendota Heights. Pianist Lynn Brownell will provide entertainment. Many baskets and items will be on display to bid on during the silent auction.

Tickets are $23 per person during early bird pricing before March 23. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $27. Tickets may be purchased at the facility or mailed by Wednesday, March 23.
