Candidates file for Bulletin area offices

The end of May marked the close of candidate-filing for elections with primaries in the Bulletin area. Numerous incumbents tossed their hats back in the ring in an attempt to hold onto their current seats, while others have decided to leave or retire.

Notably, DFL state Sens. Bev Scalze and Barb Goodwin have decided to conclude their long careers of public service at the end of 2016.

Scalze’s departure prompted House District 42B Rep. Jason Isaacson, DFL-Shoreview, to go after her current seat, opening up the 42B race to newcomers.

In the same vein, Goodwin’s departure led to House District 41B Rep. Carolyn Laine, DFL-Columbia Heights, to seek Goodwin’s current seat in the Senate.
