Toastmasters International weekly meeting

Join Toastmasters International at the next weekly meeting Aug. 7 to see how they can help you with your communication and leadership goals. Tai Chi

Oakdale Wellness 50+ is offering Tai Chi for the free August event. Please join our skilled instructor to experience relaxed movements to enhance balance and fitness. Our fitness evaluations are also available. Tai Chi will be held Aug. 12 from 10:30 to noon at the Oakdale Discovery Center, 4444 Hadley Avenue, N. Those interested in participating must register by calling the Discovery Center at 651-747-3860. 

Oakdale Wellness 50+ is a grassroots effort by volunteers to support and encourage healthy living for the community’s citizens age 50 and older.


Emerald Ash Borer classes

Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) 101 For Homeowners will be held on Thursday, Aug. 3, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., and also on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Maplewood Nature Center, 2659 East Seventh Street. These are free classes and both cover the same material. Call 651-249-2170 to register.

EAB has been found in ash trees in Maplewood. Join our city forester to learn the basics about Emerald Ash Borer damage and management. We’ll cover ash tree identification, signs and symptoms of EAB, treatments and management. 


Red Cross blood shortage continues

Thousands of people have responded to the emergency call for blood and platelet donations issued by the American Red Cross in early July, but there continues to be a critical summer blood shortage. Eligible donors of all types are urgently needed. Please check redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS for current blood donation centers days and hours, or attend one of the additional blood donation opportunities in the area. 

A blood donation event will be held Aug. 9 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Church of St. Peter, 2600 N. Margaret St., North St. Paul. Another area event will be held Aug. 14 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Guardian Angels Catholic Church, 8260 4th St. N., Oakdale.


Anxiety support group meets in East St. Paul

 National Alliance on Mental Illness Minnesota sponsors free support groups for persons with anxiety disorders. The groups help individuals develop better coping skills and find strength through sharing their experiences. An Open Door Anxiety and Panic support group meets in East St. Paul from 6:30 to 8 p.m., on the first and third Thursday of the month, at Woodland Hills Church, 1740 Van Dyke Street.
